About Me

I have lived here for 30 years. I am a husband, father of a three year old, and small business owner. As a part of the community, I will help you because these are our problems. I will show up for you like I have in my work as Executive Director of the Somali Family Life Center. I have designed afterschool programs that keep kids out of trouble. I will never stop helping you and fighting for you. I have protected immigrants with my network of lawyers, and as your next city council member I will protect everyone.

Most importantly we need to fight corruption and hate. My opponent started charities (part of feeding our future) that stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from hungry children during covid. My opponent has opposed gay marriage and said of Jewish people “Where is Hitler when you need him?”

I oppose genocide everywhere – From Palestine to Poland.

The incumbent moved to Ward 6 to run for office and spends most of his time in the suburbs!

It is time for honest leadership that lives here and listens!

It is time for a change!

Housing

Funding for Affordable Housing

The private housing market will never build enough truly affordable housing.   Without leadership from the federal government, we need to work with state leaders to get more housing bonds to fund truly affordable housing.  BBC will work with legislative allies and colleagues to increase funding.

Total Housing Supply

If our metropolitan region doesn’t build enough housing, people with money will outbid those with less and more “naturally occurring affordable housing” (NOAH) will disappear.  We can prevent this.  Every city in the metro area needs to legalize more types of housing, from “missing middle” housing (duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes)

Renter Protections

We need some form of rent control to keep predatory landlords from using to excessive rent increases to evict people.  But we also can’t block production of new housing.  BBC will work with advocates to protect renters and also keep building more and more housing.

Transportation & Environment

With interstates 94 and 35W running through our ward 6, our residents are disproportionately exposed to air pollution from cars and trucks.  This is bad for public health.  Fortunately, two light rail lines (Blue and Green) and two BRT Lines (Orange and D-Line) also serve our ward.   The more we can improve the whole transit system, the more we can reduce air pollution and improve economic opportunity.

Minneapolis must get the biggest possible benefit of new state money to expand the bus system to be faster, more frequent, more reliable so residents of Ward 6 can get to jobs all around the whole metro area.  Buses must also be safe for all riders.

Our streets should be safe and comfortable for people walking and taking transit.  This includes trips to support local businesses downtown and on commercial corridors in Ward 6 like Franklin, Lake, Nicollet, Cedar, Riverside and more. Minneapolis must do more to keep our sidewalks clear of snow and ice, especially for the elderly and others with mobility challenges.
